FMCG major Dabur India all set to launch its direct-to-consumer e-portal soon
D2C is a business model where the brand sells directly to the consumer.
One of the first companies to use this in India, Hindustan Unilever (HUL) launched its D2C portal last year and has seen some great results, with sales going up by 30% over last year.
The move comes at a time when D2C has been rapidly gaining ground in the country and enabling brands to engage with consumers directly without involving third parties like retailers and distributors.
D2C, which stands for direct-to-customer, refers to selling products directly through online platforms rather than through distribution channels such as stores or catalogs.
The concept of D2C has gained popularity over the years due to its ability to offer an all-inclusive experience for both manufacturers and consumers because it eliminates any middlemen involved in the process, such as retailers who take a commission from manufacturers for selling their products through their stores or catalogs; distributors who sell branded goods such as cosmetics across various cities; etcetera.
However, it will be different from Nykaa's e-commerce venture as it will not sell beauty and wellness products but ayurvedic supplements like chyawanprash and honey, it added.
The company said that the portal would also help build brand loyalty among consumers by providing information about Dabur products through a comprehensive database of ingredients used in its formulations.
"A new division within the group has been created to look after this new business model, which was incorporated on December 23 last year,"
Said one source, who did not want (to be) identified.
The company’s new division will create an online platform where consumers can buy products from Dabur, like toothpaste, face wash, hair oils, etc., without visiting their stores or going through any other hassle. The new affiliate could also work in tandem with ecommerce companies such as Amazon & Flipkart, which have been growing rapidly in recent years by offering customers faster delivery options along with better prices than regular retailers do
