Karnataka Election: Facial Recognition Technology to Revolutionize Voting Process
Facial recognition technology will be piloted in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections to streamline the voting process and reduce waiting times. The innovative system will enable voters to upload a selfie, verify their identity, and skip the queue at polling booths, making the electoral process more convenient and efficient for citizens.
In collaboration with the National Informatics Centre, the state's Chief Electoral Officer is working to implement the technology across various polling stations in Bengaluru. This move is expected to significantly enhance voter turnout by minimizing the hassle of long queues and improving the overall voting experience.
To participate, voters must upload a selfie through a designated mobile application. The facial recognition system will then compare the uploaded selfie with the voter's photograph in the electoral roll database to confirm their identity. Once verified, the voter will receive a confirmation message and be permitted to skip the queue at their designated polling station.
The pilot project aims to test the effectiveness and accuracy of the facial recognition technology, as well as its potential for large-scale implementation in future elections. The success of this pilot project could pave the way for adopting such technology in other states, revolutionizing the way Indians vote and engage in the democratic process.
