Elon Musk, the business magnate behind companies such as SpaceX and Tesla, recently got into a public feud with Microsoft over the Windows PC setup process. Musk's displeasure with the required Microsoft account setup requirement also highlighted broader debates over user control and data privacy in the digital era.

In a series of tweets, Musk criticised the need to create a Microsoft account when setting up his new Windows notebook. He directly approached Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, demanding flexibility in the setup process: 

"Please allow people setting up a new Windows PC to skip creating a Microsoft account," Musk said in a tweet.

Despite Musk's direct appeal to Nadella, his frustration remained. He moved to social media to voice his disappointment, pointing out the loss of the ability to skip account creation when connected to WiFi. 

Musk's reluctance stemmed from his reservations about providing Microsoft's artificial intelligence access to his computer, a stance shared by many users concerned about data privacy consequences.

The uproar surrounding Musk's experience with the Windows PC setup resonated with a larger audience that shared similar complaints. While Microsoft accounts provide integration benefits such as OneDrive storage and app synchronisation, the forced setup process prompted questions about user autonomy and control over personal data.
